Growing blueberries

Step 1

Blueberries are very interesting and specific culture, which, unlike other berry crops, requires special care. Blueberry seedlings are grown and propagated by specialized nurseries.

Step 2

After the seedlings have been grown, they are transplanted directly to the fields – where they will grow and be cared for. In the first years of planting blueberries all efforts are directed to grow a healthy and strong bush. Winter-spring pruning is carried out to give the plant the right shape, as well as to prevent various diseases and to obtain a quality and abundant harvest.

Step 3

For the second year after planting, blueberries give their first harvest. Berries are carefully collected and stored in a specialized refrigerator. Then the blueberry gets to the consumer.

Step 4

In the following years, the process of care and protection of this plant continues. Also, the yield of this crop will increase from year to year, as tall blueberries grow for over 50 years and from year to year cyclically continue to produce delicious and, most importantly, useful berries.

About the variety

To date, more than 100 varieties of this berry have been bred, which differ in yield, size of berries and shrubs, ripening dates and fruit appearance.

Our farm grows 8 species of one variety of blueberry called Bb001. The variety is relatively new and young. It was registered in 2015 in the state register of varieties. This variety is a clone of the Duke variety and has similar morphological features. Shrubs of this variety 1.2-1.8 m tall. Berries begin to ripen in mid-July. The berries are quite large 17-20 mm in diameter. With proper care can regularly give a high yield of 6-8 kg from the bush.

The peculiarity of this variety of blueberry is that the early ripening of berries occurs at a fairly late flowering. This prevents damage from spring frosts.

Bb001 is a record holder in terms of ripening time: only 45 days pass between flowering and fruit picking.
